BelAire 4916V — the 60 Gallon That Fits Under a Low Ceiling

The reason to choose the 4916V over its taller siblings is height. Will It Fit?

Measure to the lowest thing above the spot you want to use rather than to the ceiling itself, and remember the machine needs clearance above it for the discharge plumbing and for a hand on the fill cap. On the floor it wants a flat concrete slab; at 250 lbs on a compact base it is the lightest of the vertical machines here, but that mass is still concentrated on a small area. The route in matters as much as the destination — check the doorway. Confirming clearance, doorways and the circuit is the customer’s responsibility before the truck is booked.

Electrically it is 230V, 1-phase, on a 40 amp circuit, with no magnetic starter fitted. Have an electrician confirm the supply and the breaker before you order.

What 165 PSI Means for Your Tools

This pump tops out at 165 PSI, a little below the ceiling of the larger two-stage machines in the range, and delivery at maximum pressure is around 14 CFM. For the overwhelming majority of shop work that is irrelevant — impact guns, ratchets, blow guns and sanders are specified well below that, and the reserve above their working pressure exists to stop pressure sagging while the tool is running. It matters only if you have a specific tool with a high working-pressure requirement, in which case check its plate before you buy rather than after.

The more useful way to think about a 60 gal tank on a 5 HP pump is duty rather than pressure. Air tools that draw continuously — a DA sander, a media blaster — will run the tank down and keep the motor working. Tools used in bursts will barely trouble it. Tank volume buys you burst capacity, not endless air.

The Parts That Wear

Stainless steel valves, a solid cast iron pump and a belt drive are the three choices that decide how long a compressor lasts. Stainless valve plates survive the constant hot cycling that kills cheaper steel ones. Cast iron carries heat out of the cylinder and wears slowly. Belt drive lets the pump spin slower than the motor, and a slower pump is a cooler, longer-lived pump — and a belt is a consumable you can replace in an afternoon, unlike a seized direct-drive assembly.

Lubrication is splash with an oil level sight glass. There is no aftercooler and no dryer, so open the manual drain daily and treat the air downstream if you are spraying.

That is a certification of the vessel — how it was designed, welded and inspected — and it is not the same thing as a third-party safety listing of the complete electrical machine. This item ships free, so there is nothing to add at checkout. Delivery to a home address carries a residential fee; picking the machine up from the freight terminal yourself avoids it.

Decide how the crate comes off the truck before it arrives — that part is the receiver’s responsibility, so you want a forklift, a dock, or several people and a hoist ready. Inspect it with the driver while he is still there: shroud, belt guard, gauges, tank shell, and the pallet itself. Anything you find goes on the delivery paperwork before you sign. A note on the paperwork starts a freight claim; a clean signature usually ends one.
