Schulz 15120HW60X-3 V-Series 15 HP Two-Stage Air Compressor (230V 3-Phase)

The 15120HW60X-3 is the largest motor Schulz fits to a horizontal 120-gallon V-Series receiver, and the most useful thing we can tell you about it is not in the marketing block. It is in the specification block. This pump is splash-lubricated and it has an oil sight glass, but it has no low-oil shutdown. Nothing on the machine will stop the motor if the oil level falls.

That single line defines how the compressor expects to be owned. Somebody glances at the glass on a schedule and keeps the level where it belongs, and in exchange the shop gets a slow-turning cast-iron two-stage pump that will still be earning money long after a lighter direct-drive unit has been scrapped. We would rather put that on the product page than take the phone call afterwards. If nobody on your floor owns a daily walk-around, budget for the habit before you budget for the compressor.

What it puts out

Rated delivery on this listing is 50 CFM at 175 PSI, produced by a 15 HP motor on 230V 3-Phase power and stored in a 120-gallon horizontal receiver tapped with a 1" outlet. That is real multi-bay air rather than hobby air: impact guns and ratchets running continuously, a paint gun, a tyre changer, a bead blaster, plus the small constant losses every shop has and nobody budgets for. The two-stage pump is what makes the 175 PSI figure meaningful, because a single-stage pump reaching that pressure would be working far outside its comfortable range and would not stay there for long.

One output figure to confirm before you order

Published free-air delivery figures for this model differ at 175 PSI: the figure carried on this listing, and written above, is 50 CFM; the manufacturer's specification block records a higher figure at the same pressure.

Size your tool list against 50 CFM, the conservative of the two, and you will be covered either way. If the difference is close enough to decide your purchase, confirm the current figure with us in writing before you order — we will have it confirmed by Schulz.

Will it fit, and will it run?

The unit measures 78.3" long, 28" wide and 51.2" tall, and it weighs 936 lbs before oil. Three practical consequences follow from that.

Floor. 936 lbs sits on four feet, so you want a flat, level slab and no rocking. A compressor that rocks walks, and a compressor that walks eventually strains its outlet plumbing.

Access. Leave working room on the pump side. You have to see the sight glass and reach the belt guard without dragging the machine out, and the reason this pump lasts is that both jobs stay easy enough to actually do.

Power. This is a 230V 3-Phase machine. Schulz marks both the amp draw and the recommended breaker as "consult a certified electrician", and we are going to repeat that rather than improve on it, because the correct answer depends on your run length, your service and your local code. Confirming that your building genuinely has three-phase service, and that your slab, doorway and route can take a 936 lb machine 78.3" long, is the buyer's responsibility. Measure the path in, not just the corner it lands in.

Why two stages, and why cast iron

A single-stage pump squeezes air once and dumps the heat of that whole squeeze into one cylinder. A two-stage pump does the work in two smaller steps with a cooling pass between them, which is why it holds a higher pressure without cooking itself. The V-cylinder layout spaces the cylinders apart and puts deeper fins between them so the block sheds heat rather than storing it; cooler air out of the pump means less water reaching your tools and less varnish forming inside the pump.

The block is solid cast iron, the valves are Swedish steel, the main bearings are oversized and the components are CNC machined. Individually those read as a parts list. Together they describe a pump designed to run at low RPM for years rather than to hit a headline number on day one. Power reaches it through notched belts under an enclosed guard, which keeps fingers and shop rags out of the drive.

Moisture: what this machine does and does not do for you

The specification block lists no after-cooler, no air dryer and no electronic drain valve. That is the standard configuration for this model, not an omission, but it does hand you a job. Air leaves a two-stage pump hot and wet, and it drops that water out as it cools in the tank and the pipe. Plan for a drop leg at the outlet, a manual tank drain on a real schedule, and a dryer downstream of the tank if you spray paint or run anything with tight tolerances. Nobody regrets that plumbing; plenty of people regret skipping it.

Perfect For

  • Multi-bay independent repair shops where several techs pull air at once.
  • Tyre and fleet operations that run impact tools most of the working day.
  • Fabrication and body shops needing steady pressure for sanding, blasting and spraying.
  • Any facility that already has 230V 3-Phase service. That is the deciding factor, and it is what rules this model out of most home garages.

What is in the box

Taken only from what the manufacturer feature list and specification block actually state: the compressor with its V-Series solid cast-iron two-stage pump, the WEG T.E.F.C. electric motor, a magnetic starter mounted and prewired, notched belts under an enclosed guard, a pressure gauge and an oil sight glass, all on a 120-gallon horizontal receiver. No air dryer, no after-cooler and no electronic drain valve are included. Hoses, drop legs, filtration, disconnects and the electrical work itself are not part of this order.

Certification, stated plainly

The air receiver and its safety valve are code-stamped to the American pressure-vessel standard, ASME, and that is the certification this product carries. It is worth being precise about what that covers. It is a pressure-vessel standard concerning the tank and its relief device. It is not a third-party safety listing of the finished electrical assembly, and it is not a substitute for your local electrical inspection. If an insurer, a municipality or a fleet contract requires a particular listing on shop equipment, get that requirement in writing and check it against this machine before you buy, not after the freight arrives.

Shipping and delivery

This compressor moves by freight to the lower 48 states, quoted live at checkout for your address. A 936 lb machine arrives strapped to a pallet, and the carrier is not obliged to bring it inside or to set it down where you want it. You need a forklift, a dock, or you can take terminal pickup and collect it yourself. Delivery to a residential address is available and carries a residential fee, which is added at checkout. Inspect it before you sign: walk the pallet, photograph anything that looks wrong, and note the damage on the bill of lading before the driver leaves. A clean signature makes a later claim very hard to win. Schulz pickup is available in Acworth, GA. Call, text or chat with us with any question at all - 866-774-7743.

Warranty

Schulz warrants the unit for 1 year and the pump for 2 years, in consumer and commercial use alike. Two things protect that cover. First, do not disassemble the pump or the motor before a claim has been opened; a unit that has already been apart is usually outside the terms. Second, follow the run-in and oil-change intervals in the manual and keep a note of when you did them, because an oil-starvation failure on a pump with no low-oil shutdown is exactly the failure a warranty administrator asks questions about. Keep your model and serial number somewhere other than on the machine.
